The mandate of the CSSPE includes holding conferences on practical ethics,
publishing a newsletter, encouraging research into and discussion of fundamental
problems in practical and theoretical ethics and supporting an interdisciplinary
approach to practical ethics. Since 1989, the CSSPE has mounted annual
conferences at the meetings of the Learned Societies. Reflecting its
inter-disciplinary nature and membership, many of these conferences have been
co-sponsored with other groups, associations, and institutions. These include
the Queen's Cross-Faculty Ethics Forum, the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology
Association, the Canadian Federation for the Humanities, the Canadian
Philosophical Association, the Ethics Practitioners’ Association of Canada, the
International Society for Environmental Ethics, the Canadian Theological
Association, the Westminster Institute for Ethics and Human Values and others.
Topics for these conferences have included "Ecology and Animals," "Feminist
Approaches to Applied Ethics," "Endangered Earth: Visions and Strategies,"
"Ethical Issues of the 90's," "Native Land Claims and Land Use Development,"
"Teaching Practical Ethics," "Justice and the Canadian Health Care System,"
"Issues in Bioethics," "Issues in Business and Professional Ethics" and
"Sustainability and Distributive Justice."
The CSSPE publishes its newsletter two times a year. We encourage members to
send in any articles, book announcements, job opportunities, conference notices,
case studies or other information which pertains to the subject of practical
ethics.
The deadlines for submitting contributions are as follows:
